My name is Santiago, I have 17 years and live in Spain for almost four years, I love sports and my hobbies are mostly games.
 I have two brothers who are already college, my father is a doctor and my mother a nurse, both pretty ordered which is the reason that I'm quite the opposite. I love languages ​​but I'm not dedicated enough to refine it.
 I like science but my strong points are and talking a lot, not always at the right time but that's how I am. What I find most interesting are science-related technological advances in medicine and the understanding of the reasoning of the brain which is a lot to discover.

Good morning Mr Miquel Poyatos.

We are students from the Ins La Pobla de Segur.  We are doing a sciences project to get a grant and finish our project in another country. We think that it would be great if you collaborate with us because in our magazine we also have a geology section, and we think that it’s interesting to have an expert from our village. We are so grateful to have you here.

You’re only 26 years old and we know that you are working as a teacher in the University of Barcelona (UAB).  

-What’s your task there?  

We also know that you have been working in different places around the world. Africa, Norway…  What did you do there? Did you compare different types of relief?

-What are you thinking to do in the future?

-We know that you’re going to have a conference in Manchester. Could you take us a short idea about what will you talk about!

-We have a section that talks about fracking. What’s your opinion about that way to extract energy resources?

-We  know that the no renewable energy resources will finish nearness… Do you bet for any renewable energy? What’s your opinion?

First Lego League FLL

What is first Lego league?

First Lego league (FLL) is a competition in where lots of teams try to win, doing the best robot and the most original project of the competition.  There can be a big number of teams, but it’s around twenty teams at the first call, that is celebrated at one city of every province of all the countries of the world. The winners can choose going to the final of the country or give this honour to another team. The winners of the final of the country can choose to do a week stage at one city of the continent with all other teams of other countries or going directly to the final of the world.

The teams which go to the final of the world, have access to visits at projects of NASA, or visit important companies of this sector.

The cartography and the civil protection maps

Cartography is the science which studies and makes territorial geographic maps in different dimensions. The maps are classify in two big groups; first of all those which are related to the scale that are world maps, continental maps, state-owner map, regional maps, topographic maps and the big scale maps. Then, those maps which are related with the themes that are physic maps, weather maps, botanical maps, geological maps, economic maps, communication maps, linguistic maps and population maps.

However in the north of Catalonia, the place which we live there is a huge geological wealth. Because of that in the capital of the Pallars Jussà there is a geological centre which studies the surroundings. This institution makes civil protection maps. The IGC establishes his civil protection maps in the prevention which controls that the existent risk doesn’t increase and to avoid the possible future risks.

The risk maps main aim is to see how the natural risks can affect our territory and to provide the right information to people. That’s why this map is a strategically element for the development of the Catalan civil protection system.

The risk maps contain lots of sections like the natural risks, technological risks, and transport risks.

LET’S APPROACH TO SCIENCE!

In the actual society, everything goes very quickly: communication, industry, technogy improvements, science... Too much information for a too short period of time. We must exchange ideas and work together for a fast advance.

MERCATEC is a kind of fair organized by the Universitat de Lleida. In April,  it is celebrated the 9th edition.

MERCATEC is an initiative of many Catalan Universities, which establishes a relationship between pre-university centres and the own universities.

The objectives of this foundation are to get the teens closer to the society and to make them possible to start in science world, using practical methods.  These types of activities help the students to open their minds and grow up their scientific vocations. Students share their knowledge to each other, that way, they all get information about many topics.

This year, it is expected the assistance of eight hundreds of students from ten different high-schools and primary-schools. There is going to be also many important personalities of the science world, like Marc Boada (director of Pendulum) and Víctor Grau (director of Physics). Both of them are going to collaborate with the programmed activities.

Everything seems to say that MERCATEC is going to be a real successful event, this year.

Introducing myself

My name is Natàlia Boneta and I'm sixteen years old. I live in Tremp a villange in the north-west of Catalonia, it is also capital of Pallars Jussà.

I started this year as a student in La Pobla de Segur where I study the scientific bachillerat with subjects like biology or chemistry which are my favourites, as well. I'm not sure at all what I'd like to study but I have an inkling of which careers I could be interested in.

In my free time I enjoy doing lots of things such as listen to music or sometimes reading books, I also train in a basketball team twice a week but I can't play matches because they are younger than me, but what I like most is spend time with my friends, specially in summer.

I'm grateful for the opportunity of take part in this project.

Som alumnes de l’IES La Pobla De Segur, i estem treballant en un projecte que relaciona les llengües amb la ciència. El projecte consistirà en elaborar una revista orientada a difondre notícies i novetats de l’àmbit científic, amb l’objectiu d’aconseguir una beca per a poder completar el nostre projecte al Regne Unit .

Per això, ens seria de gran ajuda poder contactar amb vosaltres per tal de poder conèixer quines són les vostres tasques en el centre i els vostres objectius. Els temes de biotecnologia són capdavanters en les recerques científiques. I ens hem assabentat que en el vostre centre es realitzen treballs de recerca molt importants en tot el referent a la biotecnologia.

Seria una bona opció el poder entrevistar-vos , ja sigui a través de correu o inclús fent-vos una visita a les vostres instal·lacions. Ens seria de gran ajuda per tal de poder difondre la vostra feina en la nostra “revista”

Hello, my name is Guillem and I live in Talarn, I'm 17 years old and I'm actually studying 1st of Humanistic Bachillerat in La Pobla de Segur and I'm studying subjects like maths history and economy.

In my free time I play the guitar, I do sport and I play games on my console. I'm interested in the economy of my country and sometimes I read the newspapers to informate myself .

Since I was little I have never liked lenguages because they make me bored, I was more interested in the subjects related with numbers.

In the future I would like to travell to a diferent countries to know diferent cultures,languages,habits... But I'm not sure what I'm going to study .

Hi, I’m Òscar and I’m 17. I was born in la Seu d’Urgell. I course first of bachillerato in the Instut of la Pobla de Segur, a village located in the province of Lleida, Catalunya.

Since I was a kid I’ve always listened to a lot of music at home, because my parents are passionate about music. So I Iove jazz, blues, funky, rap, reggae, dubstep and many types of music.

I like to play football and I usually practice it every Friday. I like to go out with friends, too.

Intruducing myself: Maria

Hello, my name is Maria Carrera and I am 16. I am studying the first course of Batxillerat in IES La Pobla de Segur, my hometown’s high school. I could define myself as a reliable, responsible and honest person.

In school, I have chosen Social itinerary which contains subjects related with economy studies. My favourite subjects are History and Economy. In the university I would like to study something related with the economy, like Economics or Business, in Barcelona.

Since I was little I have loved languages, nowadays I am learning English and French, besides Catalan and Spanish. Someday, I would like to study other languages like German or Italian.

In my free time, I like reading books specially fantasy and adventures books, but also historical books as Ken Follet ones. I am also interested in music and cinema, like all the people of my age. I love to hang out with my friends and have fun with them. 

Since last year, I work as a volunteer, every Monday I help some primary students with their homework, it is an extraordinary experience in which I have learn lots of things. 

In the future I would like to travel around the world, because I love travel and discover different cultures. I have never been to England, so I am looking forward to be able to realize this project with all my classmates, I think it will be a wonderful experience.

Hello my name is Mario I'm sixteen and I live in a small village in Catalonia(Spain), named La Pobla de Segur.I was born in the capital city of Bulgaria-Sofia, and I've lived there for almost 13 years. Currently I'm studying 1st of batxillerat in La Pobla and I study subjects like History,Latin,German,Economy..... My hobbies are playing video-games on my console,playing basketball ,watching movies and the biggest watching Formula 1.When I was more little I used to be a kart driver and even I was participating in my national championship but now I can.t do it here so I’m just watching the results of my friends on the internet . Hello, my name is Oriol, I was born in Barcelona and I had lived there for six years. Now I’m 16 years old and I live in a small town next to Pobla. I’m studying 1^st of bachillerato at Pobla’s High School; my favourite subject is Physics Maths and Technology. My favourite hobby is cycling but I’m also very interested in the mountain, I use to go there and walking for mew places in addition I go skiing.

My name is Bernat Torres Solana. I was born in Barcelona in just over 17 years old and my entire family always has lived in La Pobla de Segur. I am currently studying High School 1 st the INS of the Institute of Puebla.

Since childhood, my father always m 'wanted to teach the mountains and valleys of my own and, as a result, my passion for the mountains has always been upward.

Currently, I am also in a group of archeology with which I reached make an important discovery in Pyrenees. Besides, I am a big fan of music and mountain sports

Introducing myself: Maribel

I am Maribel Gasa Romero and I am from La Pobla de Segur. I am sixteen and I study first of Batxillerat in the La pobla de Segur high school.  Outside of the high school, the activities that I usually do are read, go out with my friends, listen to music, etc. I also am very lively and cheerful and I like to help my friends when they are in troubles. What is more, I am very friendly and reliable so, I think that I would have a great time because I like have fun.

I have chosen the scientist Batxillerat and that is because in the high school the subjects which I like the most are Biology, Geology. However, I also like Philosophy and all about it. Those are my favourite subjects but I also study Chemistry, which I don’t like a lot. But, actually, I still don’t know what I want to do in the future and I don’t know which career or what I want to study.

I try to see all the science documentaries that I can because I enjoy see them and because I like to learn new things. I am quite curious and I am interested in news from the scientific field and specially, the reports related about the health field.

In my opinion, I will be very proud to become a part of this project. I think that it would be an amazing opportunity in which I would learn and have a great time at the same time.

Introducing myself

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writting to explain something of me.  My name is Xènia Sellart Martínez, and I’m seventeen years old. I live in La Pobla de Segur, one picturesque village in the south of the Pyrenees, in Catalonia.

I course first of batchillerat in La Pobla de Segur too. I’m studying the scientific one, because I like maths, physics and biology too. In the future I will like to study sciences and food technology or biochemistry.

I am very friendly and I easily adapt in the places. Besides, I am very cheerful, lively and energy. I am always prepared to make any type of task or activity. I am polite, as well.  

Since I was young, I practice sport. Live in the Pyrenees has some advantages.  For example, I like to go running next the river, do excursions with my friends, or in summer, swimming in the lake too. I Also like go to skiing.

I also participate in the premier division of woman’s football team in Lleida with some friends. Furthermore, one of my other hobbies is the photography. I like holding my digital camera and go to search beautiful landscapes.

Personally, I would like so much to work in this project to discover information and new news about the topic of science and practice and learn more English.

My name is Marta Gallego and I am sixteen years old. I come from La Pobla de Segur and I am studying in the high school right there 1^st of Batxillerat.

I could define me as lively, talkative and cheerful with my people, but when it comes to work, I am reliable and completely dedicated.

I like going to school and learn to improve my knowledge, but, of course, in my extracurricular time, I like to spend my time doing many other things. For example, one of my most important hobbies is singing and playing the guitar; in fact, everything related to music is exciting to me. Sport is also indispensable for me. I play in a women’s football team, and I really enjoy playing and having fun with my friends while doing healthy activities. I also practise ski with my family in winter; we live in a place near some ski resorts, and skiing is one of the most remarkable sports here.

Relating to my school interests, my preferences are clear. I decided to choose scientific subjects, like biology, physics and chemistry, because I am really interested in science and I enjoy every of its classes.

Because of this special interest, last year, I was accepted in a research program named “Joves i Ciència”, in which some of the best students in science from Catalonia have the opportunity to start in the science world. 

I am especially amused and excited about participating, together with all my partners, in this project. I think it would be a great chance to improve our experience doing research and a beautiful experience to live and with which start building a good way  to our future.

Introducing myself: Laia.

My name is Laia Fontelles and I’m sixteen years old.  I live in La Pobla de Segur, a small village located in the north-west of Catalonia. I study in the unique High school of the village, the INS La Pobla de Segur.

Like every teen, I have lots of hobbies, but one of my favourite ones is skiing. I think skiing is a way to desconec from the every day rutine. Another one is football. Here in La Pobla rather girls play in a team.

But I don’t only love sports. I like sciences too. Specially technology and physics. What’s more, last year I  participated in the First Lego League championship, an international project in which we had to work with robots design and schematize scientific projects. We invented a kind of sensor which was used by blind people for indicate them the condition of the fruit and vegetables.

So, it will be great if we won this project and we could travel to England, because if we go all together it will be a very productive scientific experience!
