The cartography and the civil protection maps

Cartography is the science which studies and makes territorial geographic maps in different dimensions. The maps are classify in two big groups; first of all those which are related to the scale that are world maps, continental maps, state-owner map, regional maps, topographic maps and the big scale maps. Then, those maps which are related with the themes that are physic maps, weather maps, botanical maps, geological maps, economic maps, communication maps, linguistic maps and population maps.

However in the north of Catalonia, the place which we live there is a huge geological wealth. Because of that in the capital of the Pallars Jussà there is a geological centre which studies the surroundings. This institution makes civil protection maps. The IGC establishes his civil protection maps in the prevention which controls that the existent risk doesn’t increase and to avoid the possible future risks.

The risk maps main aim is to see how the natural risks can affect our territory and to provide the right information to people. That’s why this map is a strategically element for the development of the Catalan civil protection system.

The risk maps contain lots of sections like the natural risks, technological risks, and transport risks.
